For the first phase of acclimatization we have selected an internationally completely unknown and rarely used route in the Vallecitos valley leads us to the summit of the same name at 5,420 meters. The second phase of acclimatization and the actual ascent takes place via the legendary “False Poland Route” and includes the Crossing of the summit and subsequent descent via the “normal route”.

We circle that mighty Aconcagua massif and thus not only have the opportunity to see the mountain giants from all sides to admire, but also avoid the very large crowds in this way. Optimal acclimatized, the ascent to 6,962 meters does not present us with any major climbing challenges Challenges, however, is demanding due to the altitude and the associated cold. Ideal conditions to make the heart of every mountain-loving adventurer beat faster permit. We look forward to a varied, spectacular and unique mountain tour in the heart of the Andes, which certainly leaves nothing to be desired.

DAY 1: Arrival Mendoza

In Mendoza, we are met at the airport by our guides and drive then to our hotel. There we receive an extensive information on the upcoming expedition with our mountain guides. In addition to a comprehensive equipment check, we will have a day-by-day overview of the entire equipment check at this meeting, receive advancement and have the opportunity to have questions answered. The guides help need when renting or buying equipment. During an evening stroll through the City we have the opportunity to have a glass in one of the many great restaurants in the city, red wine to toast the beginning of the journey. DAY 2: Mendoza – Vallecitos – Las Veguitas (3.230m)

After breakfast, with our luggage fully packed, we make our way together to the Aconcagua National Park office to collect and pay for our permits. Afterwards our transfer is waiting at the hotel to drive us to the starting point of our first acclimatization hike in the Vallecitos Valley. The Vallecitos Valley is a classic in the Mendoza region for all local mountain lovers. After about two hours of driving, we start the trek to our first tented camp. A gently ascending path leads us to our first camp sheltered by the valley, from where we have uninterrupted views of Cerro Vallecitos (5,420m) – the main objective of the first acclimatization phase.

Today our first 4000 meter peaks  are on the program. After breakfast we start our hike through the valley. On one side is the 4,194 meter high Stepanek and on the other Adolfo Calle with 4,272 meters. Our goal for the day is to climb both peaks. Our route follows a steadily ascending and ever steeper path; at this altitude we will feel the exertion of the approximately one thousand meters of altitude to be overcome. This day is very important as part  of our acclimatization. At the end of the day, we will be rewarded for our efforts with a nice dinner at our camp.

After breakfast we hike leisurely in direction of El Salto, following the valley on an initially flat path that climbs steeply at the end and leads to our camp for the night. The high-alpine landscape is now becoming increasingly barren, but the ocher-colored mountain slopes always offer photogenic motifs. The first night of camping above four thousand meters represents a significant step in our altitude adjustment. We move into our camp for the night with a wonderful view of Cerro La Plata.

So today we get up early and follow a well-marked, steadily ascending path. The terrain is high alpine and partly difficult due to the loose scree, but does not offer any technical difficulties. We then return to our camp for the night the same way.

Today we leave our camp in the early morning hours in order to be able to master the upcoming river crossing without any problems. The water levels are still quite low early in the morning, so that we can cross the ice-cold river at a wide point. We then leave the main valley and hike steadily uphill into a side valley, the Quebrada de los Relinchos. From here we have a clear view of the impressive east face of Aconcagua at all times. Arriving at Plaza Argentina, we move into our tents in a private section of the spacious base camp. The various agencies have their own spacious dome tents with sanitary facilities, hot showers, etc..

In the Cólera camp, which is strategically located due to its height and protection from strong winds, the guides help us to set up the tents. Under the guidance of the mountain guides, we do a final equipment check and go through the schedule of the summit day again in detail. Today we retire to our tents early, which is not particularly difficult for us due to the sleeping height and the associated cold.

We reached the highest peak of the American continent, one of the Seven Summits. A challenging day that takes us to the top of the Andes with a spectacular 360° panorama. An overwhelming feeling, which reflects the difficulties of the last days.

After the obligatory photo of the summit, we go back down the same path to Camp 3, where we will spend another night.
